Son Of Sound - Evolve

Last time we heard from Son of Sound man Henry Maldonado, he was serving up seductive deep house grooves in the company of old pal Jus-Ed. Here he serves up his most significant solo release via a solid three-tracker on Patrice Scott's Sistrum label. Maldonado is on a particularly sparkling form on A-side "Evolve", a jazz-flecked, synthesizer-laden affair that sits somewhere between the jazzy brilliance of Kaidi Tatham, the soulful warmth of Kai Alce and the classic smoothness of Ron Trent. Elsewhere, "The Music" is a warm and groovy deep house roller propelled forward by rubbery synth-bass and woozy chords, while "Be About It" is a loopy, thickset fusion of thrusting deep house beats, galactic chords and fizzing jazz-funk flourishes.
