Joey Anderson can do no wrong in 2013 as he delivers his fifth EP of the year and debut for French label Syncrophone. "Ass Kicked" may be no techno stomper, but it has that same underlying menace of a DJ Qu production, with a synthesised chime that whistles like an unanswered office phone that never stops ringing. On the B-side is "Sunday Is Brunch", which again displays Anderson's ability to have spaced out atmos as a track's focal point, while an organised chaos of smudged and bit-crushed drums create an undecipherable, but enjoyable background din.
