This week finally sees the release of Garage Sessions 1 on Wax Classic, the incredibly popular off-shoot of French label Skylax Records. It follows contributions from the likes of Montel and Adryiano earlier in 2013. Treating us this time are French production partners Frederic Boeuf and Lionel Cadix, aka Concept e25. These guys have big shoes to fill after the previous releases on Wax Classic, and I’m glad to say that they do not disappoint.
Both “What Did You Say” and “Feel Strong” begin the Garage Sessions with punchy basslines, filtered chords, layered drums and catchy vocals, with the latter track being the deeper cut of the two. However, my picks of the EP lay on the B-side.“Around” has an early Kerri Chandler feel to it but Concept e25 make sure to avoid imitation here. Unlike many other producers today, they use their inspiration to create rather than replicate. “Release Yourself” closes out the EP with its soulful vocals and is the track for me which best evokes the feelings of early NY/NJ garage house. A solid package and one which will definitely have me looking out for Concept e25 in the future. VIDEO
